Thanks for checking in.
Hi, I'm Robin, a financial professional turned crypto educator and author. With experience of more than two decades working across capital markets in the City of London - as an investment banker, asset manager and senior executive - I have also gained a deep understanding of the world of digital assets. I took a sharp left turn down the Bitcoin and Crypto rabbit hole in 2017 and what began as a personal exploration of this new asset class quickly turned into a strong conviction about the future direction of the financial markets. Over the last 8 years, I have fully immersed myself in the crypto universe - both professionally and personally - gaining direct experience and expertise in investing, staking, running nodes, experimenting and messing around with DeFi.
Generally sensible but sometimes prone to bouts of degen, I have learned the hard way and ridden my fair share of volatility. From this perspective, I believe I bring a rare combination of institutional experience and crypto-native insight, with a focus on Bitcoin, proof-of-stake networks and the deeper questions challenging our preconceived ideas of money and macroeconomics. With all the knowledge I have gained, I started building educational resources and writing books to help others make sense of this fast-moving space.
As you will have seen, I now write under the name R. T. Davies, drawing on my deep experience in both tradfi and digital assets to explain the fast-changing world of crypto with clarity, realism and the odd touch of scepticism and humour!

Book Reviews
“Cryptocurrency Unchained… I gave the book a read and I am impressed. The book provides a concise, cohesive and comprehensive overview of important concepts in the cryptocurrency and digital asset space, using plain language that is easy to understand. I know from my own experience that this is very hard to achieve without compromising on technical accuracy, but the book does an admirable job. I would recommend it for anyone looking for an up-to-date bird-eye understanding of the fast-moving and jargon-laden field of blockchain. It is particularly suitable for audiences such as business executives, lawyers, financial professionals and so on.”
Professor William Knottenbelt, Imperial College London Centre for Cryptocurrency Research and Engineering
“I've been heavily involved in cryptocurrencies and cryptoassets since 2018. It may seem an arcane and niche topic to someone who is new to the subject, but I can assure you it's not. "Cryptocurrency Unchained" provides a comprehensive and in-depth exploration of the world of Bitcoin, cryptocurrency and blockchain. The author does an excellent job of breaking down complex concepts into easily digestible chunks, so it should be accessible to readers with varying levels of knowledge and experience. The writing is clear and concise and would be useful for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of this rapidly developing asset class, including financial professionals, industry participants, and serious newcomers.
One of the book's strengths is the way it conveys the scale of the crypto world, the competing technologies, their histories and government attempts to regulate them. It covers a broad range of topics including the underlying technologies, associated asset classes, and the current regulatory environment. More than this, it hints at the real possibility of a revolution where traditional finance may eventually become a subset of the crypto landscape. It also gives a sense of the change that is coming, and it's coming fast. I agree with the thesis that crypto technologies may soon become the bedrock of many existing industries, including the stock market, art, real estate, digital and physical infrastructure, gaming, governance, supply chains and beyond. "Cryptocurrency Unchained" is an ideal overview of this disruptive technology that we ignore at our peril.”

“Reading this book is a pleasure. The book is remarkably well-written. Robin has managed to demystify the complex and often intimidating world of cryptocurrencies, breaking down intricate concepts into language that is accessible to readers of all backgrounds. Whether you're a complete beginner or someone with some experience in the crypto space, this book provides a clear, engaging and thorough understanding of how cryptocurrencies work, why they matter, and where they are headed. This book strikes the perfect balance between depth and simplicity, guiding readers through technical concepts in a way that feels natural. It is not only an educational read but also a compelling one, making it ideal for anyone looking to enter or deepen their knowledge of this field. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in taking their first step into the world of cryptocurrency or those simply curious about the technological revolution transforming finance today.”

“Robin Davies has done a phenomenal job with Cryptocurrency Unchained. I found this book to be a breath of fresh air as it doesn’t just gloss over important concepts—it dives deep into the mechanics of blockchain and the transformative potential of crypto in various industries. What really sets this book apart is the balanced perspective it offers. Instead of leaning too much towards hype or skepticism, it takes a pragmatic approach, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges of cryptocurrency adoption. The writing is crisp, informative and never dull—something that’s rare in finance and tech books. I’ve already recommended it to several friends and colleagues in the industry who are interested in learning more about crypto.”

“I've been trying to learn more about crypto and actually try and understand the technology as most stuff on the internet either loves it or hates it but rarely goes into detail on how it works. Fortunately I was gifted a copy of this book recently and it's been exactly what I was after. It's well written, makes a complex topic easy to understand and goes into detail about how and why different parts of the crypto world work. I feel much more confident talking or reading about crypto with the knowledge I now have and it will definitely help me as an investor. Would recommend to anyone else looking to learn more about the topic.”

1. Introduction
The subject of cryptocurrency and the ecosystem that surrounds it is unequivocally a technically complex field of study to both the beginner and more advanced explorer. As referenced in the preface, this book provides a more sophisticated overview and explanation of the world of digital assets and it would be easy to fall into the trap of assumed knowledge when writing about products, technicalities and concepts that one has engaged with professionally for many years.
